Re-Evaluating Your Goals: Why the End of the First Quarter Is the Perfect Time

By Patricia Wooster

As the first quarter of the year approaches, it's a great time to reflect on the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. This can help you stay on track towards achieving them and ensure that you're making progress towards your desired outcomes. And if you are following the Designing Genius process, then re-evaluating your Lifebook on a regular basis is key to your success.

Re-evaluating your Areas of Focus and Ingredients is similar to a typical road trip. Just like on a road trip, you may encounter unexpected roadblocks, detours, or even a change in your destination. Reviewing a few months into the year is like checking  Google Maps vs. Waze to ensure you are on the quickest and smoothest possible path to get where you want to go. It is close enough to the beginning of your journey to make changes or create movement toward the things most important to you for the year.

Assessing Progress

One of the main reasons to re-evaluate your goals at the end of the first quarter is to assess your progress toward achieving them. By doing so, you can determine if you're on track to meet your goals or need to adjust your approach. This is also a great opportunity to celebrate the progress you've made so far and to acknowledge the hard work you've put in.

Adjusting Strategies

If you find that you're not progressing toward your goals, a quick audit can help you identify the strategies or approaches that aren't working. This allows you to adjust and try new approaches to help you achieve your goals. For example, if you set a goal to focus on your health and haven't made progress, you may need to make a doctor’s appointment or prioritize your exercise routine.

Refocusing Priorities

Sometimes, our priorities and circumstances change over time. Re-evaluating your goals at the end of the first quarter allows you to refocus your priorities and make any necessary adjustments to your goals based on your current circumstances. For example, if you initially set a goal to save for a down payment on a house but have since decided to focus on paying off debt, you may need to adjust your goals accordingly.

Enhancing Motivation

To help you stay motivated, remind yourself of your progress and the work that still needs to be done. This can help you stay focused and energized as you work towards achieving your goals. By recognizing your progress, you can also boost your confidence and feel more motivated to keep going.

A first-quarter goal audit allows you to assess your progress, adjust your strategies, refocus your priorities, and enhance your motivation. So take time to reflect on your goals and make any necessary adjustments. With the right mindset and approach, you can create significant movement within your Areas of Focus and lean into Genius Living.
